Generic academic skills

The aim of the course is to provide guidance to participants on the elements of being a scientist that are generic – that is, not subject-specific. The course addresses the writing of papers, the paper review process, oral presentations, and scientific ethics, among others. The approach is empirical: examples are analysed of both successful and unsuccessful practice. Participants have to read background material before class, to contribute to the class discussions, and to lead a class discussion or presenting one paper.
