Climate dynamics

 

Concepts and models are introduced that help us understand fundamental aspects of the Earth’s climate, such as its global mean temperature and how it might change in the future. The core concept will be energy balance in various shapes. The focus will be on the art and science of constructing simplified models that help us obtain conceptual understanding.

Prerequisites: Standard calculus and ordinary differential equations, some knowledge of the atmosphere and oceans is useful but not necessary.

2 Credit Points: for >80% attendance and >50% in homework assignments;
4 Credit Points: for >80% attendance and >50% in homework assignments; plus handing in a course report
