Starting signal for German Marine Research Alliance

On 18 July 2019 the administrative agreement for the German Marine Research Alliance was signed by the Federal Minister for Education and Research Anja Karliczek and her colleagues from the German states Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Lower Saxony. The German Marine Research Alliance is an initiative of the Federal Government to bundle competences, to enlarge cooperation and coordination in German marine research, and to compile joint strategies for research and infrastructure.

Already on 4th of July the registered association was founded by the charter members. The Max Planck Society is founder member represented by the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology.

Managing director Prof Jochem Marotzke signed the charter for MPI-M.
