On 21st of May, 2019, foreign minister Heiko Maas visited the cluster of excellence “Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS)” at Universität Hamburg. He underlines that expertise, as it is generated in CLICCS, is necessary to convince politicians of the reality of climate change.

Before a meeting with his counterparts of the Baltic states in Hamburg, federal foreign minister Heiko Maas took the time for a meeting with climate researchers from Universität Hamburg and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M). At a round table discussion, he was informed by international leading climate experts about the working methods of their cluster: He discussed the current state of research with CLICCS speaker Prof Dr Detlef Stammer, director of the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) of Universität Hamburg and head of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and CLICCS co-speaker Prof Dr Jochem Marotzke, managing director of MPI-M and one of the coordinating lead authors of the world climate report.
