Hamburg has various schools where teaching is offered in various languages. There is an
International School
(from pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 in English language) as well as the
Phorms School, near MPI-M
French Lycee,
Chinese School,
Japanese School
In addition, there are several school offering bilingual classes at primary school level. Please consult the IO for details.
Day care
The International Office will help you find day care for your children. Eligibility to get a place in Hamburg is linked to the requirement that both father and mother are working (employed or self-employed). Both in-house and outside child care is available. Waiting lists may be long.
Day care places are normally intended for periods of a year and more, places for schort periods of 2-6 months are very difficult to get. Finde here the website of a

Despite the restricions, the International Office has often succeeded in finding places for short-term care. But, please, be aware that there is really no guarantee to find a place quickly.
The Max Planck Society (MPS) offers a support service to help find childcare solutions and care services for family members. It helps you to select the solution best suited to your family needs from a wide range of care options. For guests working at the institute for six months or longer, the MPS covers the costs for the support service consultation and placement.
