Income, taxes, funding
Income and taxes
Most of our guests are paid via a so-called stipend from the Max Planck Society (MPG). These are, as a rule, tax-free. However, a stipend recipient is obliged to pay health insurance contributions. If you have a work contract with MPI-M, the administration will automatically deduct income and other German taxes as well as social security contributions from the income received.
Funding
International scientists visiting the Max Planck Institute can be funded by various sources:
Funding from the programme for foreign scientists of the
MPG via stipend or work contract payment (see above)
- Indivudual payment from their home employer
- Scholarships from their home country, or German institutions like
DAAD,
Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung or international programmes
The IO will help you with questions regarding your funding and application procedures.
