Stratospheric polar dynamical variability and climate

Sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) events are extreme dynamical events of the polar upper atmosphere with remote potential influence on surface weather and climate at middle-high latitudes. The role of SSW events on the predictability of the surface climate at inter-annual and longer scales is assessed by analysis of simulations of the MPI-ESM.
