Procedure to obtain the model software

There are two versions of this procedure:

For models released before 2012-02-23:

  1. Download the MPI-M Software License Agreement as a Word file. Please type in the relevant information and sign a printed version as follows:
  2. If you as the individual user AND your employer agree with the terms of this licence agreement, then complete the 1st page of the MPI-M Software License Agreement with all required information, and sign as the Licensee.
  3. Further users of the same institute can be added in the extension list on page 2. If one list is not sufficient you may replicate the table. Each additional user has to read the agreement and to sign. The person on the first page will be the main contact for the distribution of the software.
  4. Send the edited Word file by email and the printed version with signatures by fax to Mr. Reinhard Budich, MPI-Met, who is acting as the central broker for the model distribution:

  5. You/the main contact person will be informed when the form is signed by the Managing Director of MPI-M.
  6. Finally the actual transmission of the software will be organized with you/the main contact person

For models released from 2012-02-23 on:

Developing and using Earth system models is a complicated business and needs strong involvement by a lively community. The models/components developed at the MPI-M, including components provided by scientists of other institutes, are made available and shared within the scientific community. However, the MPI-M Software developed must remain controllable and documented.
To use MPI-ESM or component models contained in it you will need to:

  • Accept the MPI-M-Software License Agreement v2 by
  • Accepting to become member of the forum mpi-esm-users and the according email-list mpi-esm-users@lists.mpimet.mpg.de

This process needs participation by you and the moderator of the mpi-esm-users forum. This page will guide you through the process of registration, and accepting the licence.
