The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) is located just across the road near "Schlump" underground station, next to a 18 storey university building, the Geomatikum. The institute is located in the new, glass-walled ZMAW building (ZMAW = Centre for Marine and Atmsopheric Sciences). Please take a look at the map above and follow the "footprints" to reach MPI-M (coming from the underground station "Schlump").

By public transport to MPI-M

From Hamburg Airport, please go by S-Bahn line S1 signed Ohlsdorf to "Ohlsdorf" station (one stop only). Then please change to the blue underground line U1 (destination Wandsbek Markt / Wandsbek-Gartenstadt / Farmsen / Volksdorf) and get off at "Kellinghusenstrasse" station. Then please change to the yellow underground line U3 (destination Hauptbahnhof-Sued / Barmbek) and get off at "Schlump" underground station. Transfer time by public transport is around 25 - 30 minutes. Cost for a single trip is 2.85 EUR.

From the main railway station "Hamburg-Hauptbahnhof" to MPI-M - by public transport
Arriving by train at the main railway station Hauptbahnhof, please take the red underground line U2 (destination Niendorf-Nord or Niendorf-Markt) and get off at "Schlump" underground station. Transfer time is around 10 minutes, cost for a single trip is 1.85 EUR.

From the railway station "Hamburg-Dammtor" to MPI-M

Arriving by train at the station Hamburg-Dammtor, take bus no. 4 or 5 in front of the station. Take bus no. 4, signed Wildacker, and get off at the bus station "Bundesstrasse". From there, turn towards the high-rise building, the Geomatikum; MPI-M is located on the Geomatikum's left-hand side. Transfer time is between 10 - 15 minutes, cost for a single trip is 1.40 EUR.

Or take bus no. 5, signed Nedderfeld, U Niendorf Markt, A Burgwedel, and get off at the bus station "Grindelhof". From there, turn left onto Rentzelstrasse and then turn right onto Bundesstrasse to reach the ZMAW building. Transfer time is between 10 - 15 minutes, cost for a single trip is 1.40 EUR.
